A summer of fantastic racing at Jockey Club racecourses in the East Region

Three of the Jockey Club’s racecourses in the East Region – Market Rasen, Newmarket and Nottingham – are a hive of activity throughout July and August, with a host of thrilling meetings on the Flat and over jumps; from big festivals to family days and music nights, which means that there is something for everyone.

The Moet & Chandon July Festival on the Adnams July Course is the summer showcase meeting in Newmarket, offering three days of world-class racing, entertainment and hospitality experiences in a relaxed garden setting from Thursday 12th – Saturday 14th July. On the track, the Darley July Cup is the headline race on the Saturday, as the best sprinters in Europe – and the world – take each other on; while on the Friday the fillies take centre stage in the Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes, both races of which form part of the QIPCO British Champions Series.

Off the track, the Style Awards, sponsored by The Spa at Bedford Lodge Hotel, offers racegoers an opportunity to be crowned Best Dressed Lady on Ladies’ Day on the Thursday, Best Dressed Group on the all-new Feel Good Friday and Best Dressed Couple on the Saturday. Thousands of pounds worth of prizes can be won and the competition is free and open to all.

The action at Newmarket doesn’t stop there: the Adnams July Course comes alive with music in the summer and in July and August there are five Newmarket Nights, where evening racing is followed by a global headline act. This summer’s acts include Craig David on 20th July (sold out), Plan B on 27th July, The Magic of Motown on 3rd August, Nile Rodgers & CHIC on 10th August and George Ezra on 17th August.

Saturdays are Newmarket’s family-friendly ‘Summer Saturdays’, which, in addition to competitive racing, provide a variety of themed on-course entertainment where under 18s go free. Summer Saturdays this year include Great British Summer Day on 21st July, Countryside Day on 28th July, Sports Day on 4th August, Royal British Legion Day on 11th August, and Horseplay on 18th August. Finally, the summer season on the Adnams July Course comes to a close on 25th August with Summer Saturday Live, where The Vamps will play after racing – not before the 349th running of the historic Newmarket Town Plate.

Market Rasen hosts some of the best summer jumps racing to be found anywhere in the country, and the 188BET Summer Plate Ladies’ Day on Saturday 21st July is an unmissable opportunity for racegoers to be part of the best social occasion in Lincolnshire. The Listed Summer Plate Handicap Chase always attracts a competitive and talented field, while racegoers can also enjoy great entertainment including a live DJ set with Lincs FM after racing.

July and August also feature Family Extravaganzas at Market Rasen on Sunday 8th July and Sunday 5th August, while Paloma Faith will take to the stage after racing on Saturday 18th August, having achieved her first UK Number 1 album prior to Christmas with her new album ‘The Architect’.

Nottingham kicks off racing in July with their popular Genting Casino Ladies’ Night on Saturday 7th July, where in addition to competitive racing, Marc Dillion will be performing throughout the day, followed by a DJ set from Gem 106’s Sparky and Dan Wood after racing. There are then six further race meetings over July and August at Nottingham, with the racing highlight being Colwick Cup Day on Friday 17th August. The Colwick Cup is a relatively new race, a handicap over a mile and six furlongs which has been designed to attract horses that are likely to be eliminated from the Ebor Handicap at York. In addition to high-class racing, good-value hospitality is available to racegoers on Colwick Cup Day, with tables in the restaurant available from only £55 per person to include designated parking, admission, racecard, a 2-course carvery and drinks served directly to the table which is reserved for the whole afternoon.

With so much high-quality racing and entertainment for all the family on offer over July and August, there is an abundance of racing days for all those who are based in the East of England, so why not book your tickets now and celebrate your summer in style?
