There’s a reason why Newmarket is considered the home of horseracing. History tells us that King Charles laid the foundation for the sport in our great town in 1666. It’s been home to legends, both human and equine and to this day has racing at its core.
For the die-hard fan, the town is a must-visit destination with Discover Newmarket giving visitors a unique opportunity to get close to some of their heroes. That Newmarket has captured 13 of the Group One races run in Britain this season says a lot about its residents. Champions live here and you could meet some of them.
With the Flat season heading towards its final chapter for this year, Discover Newmarket is offering visitors the chance to soak up some of the buzz of the upcoming Autumn sales with Tattersalls Tour dates already lined up.
This full day experience starts in the morning on the famed Training Grounds to watch second lot go about their work before going behind the scenes in one of the many famed yards in the area before moving on to the National Heritage Centre for Horseracing & Sporting Art at Palace House.
This is a chance to learn more about the early origins of the Sport of Kings and also offers the chance to see the work done by the Retraining of Racehorses charity. The Rothschild yard here has been the home for some popular equine heroes including Sire De Grugy and Purple Moon.
Get a guided tour of the world’s oldest auctioneers and get an insight into what bloodstock agents and buyers look for before putting their hands up to bid. There’s a buzz during sales time and this is your chance to experience it as horses are paraded and anticipation builds before every lot enters the ring.
Discover Newmarket is offering four Tattersalls Tour dates for the remainder of the year:
9th October – Book 1 Yearling Sale
11th October – Book 1 Yearling Sale
18th October – Book 3 Yearling Sale
