Trainer: Harry Whittington
10 year old gelding
Handicap mark: 120 chase + 111 hurdle
Salto Chisco is our summer jumper, he loves good ground and is a 2m specialist. He is a versatile horse who is competitive over hurdles and fences. Since joining the club in 2016 he has won four times and only been unplaced twice. He is such an honest and straightforward horse who even at the age of 10 still seems to be improving with many career best performances this season. He loves his racing and will continue to race into the Autumn ground dependant.
Trainer: Philip Hobbs
6 year old mare
Festival Dawn was recruited from the Point-to-point scene last year and went in to training with Philip Hobbs. She made a very impressive debut in a mare’s Novice Hurdle in December finishing a close 2nd. She then scoped badly just before she was set to make her next racecourse appearance, Philips yard was struggling under a cloud of lurgy so we decided to put her away and bring her back this season. She has now returned from her summer holiday and is back in training at Sandhill Stables. She could possibly make her season debut at Bangor on October 3rd or Chepstow on October 13th. The Club will be visiting Festival Dawn at Philip Hobbs’ yard on Friday 19th October.
Trainer: Anthony Honeyball
7 year old mare
Audora is a lovely big mare who, through no fault of her own, had a rather belated start to her racing career at the age of 7. She was in training with Martin Hill last season who had to start from the very beginning with her. She raced in a couple of bumpers last season just to get some racing experience under her belt. She finished off her season last year with a much improved performance to finish 3rd in her second start over hurdles once stepped up in trip. It is clear she is a chaser in the making as she is a nice big stamp of a horse. She is now back in training after her extended summer break but with Martin Hill sadly retiring from training, will be heading to Dorset and into Anthony Honeyball’s care shortly. It will be really exciting to see her back racing again, a year older and stronger and on better (softer) ground.
PEUR DE RIEN
Trainer: Oliver Sherwood
5 year old gelding
Handicap Mark: 112 hurdle
Peur De Rien is a new addition to the Club this year. Oliver says he struggled last year with all sorts of minor issue’s including a massive growing spurt! However he is now back from his summer holiday and looking a stronger horse for it and preparing for his BRC debut. He is a really good looking horse and is an exciting Chaser in the making - he is a big lad! He ran a really nice first race at Worcester in a bumper and had one good run over hurdles at Huntingdon over 2m - he has always worked like a very nice horse we think he had quite a bit of 'physical development' to do last season-which he has now done! Oliver wants to start him over hurdles, 2 miles novice handicaps ideally, with his scope and size he could easily go over fences in the New Year. He is another exciting prospect for the forthcoming jumps season. An October club debut beckons.
MORITO DU BERLAIS
Trainer: Lucinda Russell
9 year old gelding
Handicap mark: 127 chase + 126 hurdle
Morito de Berlais is also a new addition to the Club this season. Morito raced successfully if infrequently for Paul Nicholl’s appearing at all the Grade 1 tracks in the UK. Lucinda, seeing a 135 rated bargain purchased him at the sales with high hopes of him continuing his caree at a high level over 3m. Typically he injured himself after his first run for Lucinda and has spent the last 10 months on the easy list. But he came back into work mid-July and the team at Arlary couldn’t be happier with him. He is a handsome stamp of a horse who is potentially, although 9yo, a really interesting prospect. It is anticipated that he will compete in handicap hurdle races over 3m + and with luck give the Club much fun. He will make an October seasonal debut with luck. The Club will be visiting Morito Du Berlais at Lucinda Russell’s yard on Sunday 11th November.
Trainer: Harry Whittington
3 year old mare
Pollyamarous is another new addition to the Club’s National Hunt team. This lovely filly by Califet caught Harry's eye at the sales at the beginning of the summer. She has filled out and strengthened hugely in just the few months she has been under Harry’s care and looks a different animal. She has now been broken-in and is having a break whilst she takes it all in. Harry will bring her back into the yard in a few weeks’ time when she will begin her race training proper. If she continues to be as forward and precocious then we may see her out before Christmas but otherwise she will be a New Year debutant.
